Book Review: The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
I'm sure you're already familiar about Achilles. But in case you didn't know, he did have a very close companion with him, and his name is Patroclus. I for one, wasn't aware about Patroclus because growing up, Achilles has always been the "center of attention". Thus, his name never rang a bell.
When my friend recommended The Song of Achilles, I was a little skeptical because, do I really wanna read about his story...again? I learned about him in school and watched a ton of movies about him and they're all the same. But then I was told that it had an LGBTQ+ story in there. Okay, that's interesting, so I gave it a go.
I finished the book in 3 days 😅 This has been the fastest I've read in a while.
The general story of Achilles was the same. The only difference was that, it was told in the perspective of Patroclus, Achilles' apparent lover. Yup, they weren't just besties, they were in love. Now that's a story I've never heard before. It's like unraveling a secret after all these years. I felt like everything I ever knew about him was merely the surface and there's so much more substance about him, or rather about his whole existence.
Definitely one of the books I absolutely enjoyed reading thus far!
