Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Dior Lip Glow DUPE??) VS. Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm
One of the very few products that I can't live without is a good lip balm. My lips are extra prone to dryness and cold sores so keeping them moisturized is crucial at all times. Otherwise, I'm gonna end up with bleeding lips.
That being said, I've used a lot of lip balms in my life time. Today, let's compare the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm and the Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm. I've put them to the test and I'm gonna share my honest thoughts with you.
Let's start with the hyped Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm.
The moment this lip balm came out, it was literally everywhere. And as you already know, I couldn't help but also get my hands on it. Anyway, according to Summer Fridays, this is a vegan lip balm that hydrates and soothes lips for hours. It can be used as a normal lip balm throughout the day and even as a lip sleeping mask. Basically an all in one treatment for the lips at any time of the day.
Unfortunately, I wasn't that all impressed by this product. If you ask me, I feel like it's just a normal vanilla flavored lip balm that was packaged aesthetically (but not conveniently). Let me break down my experience for you.
❌ Let's talk about the packaging first. It's not the best and I know for one that I am not the only one who hates it. It's in a metal tube and for a 22$ lip balm, I'd like to use up every single penny I've spent on it. Unfortunately, trying to pry open this packaging may not be the safest option.
❌ The vanilla scent smelled heavenly...but only at first 😬 after an hour it started smelling like candle wax. It smelled old and that was a huge turn off. This is the first lip balm I've come across that smelled horrible after application.
❌ It only feels hydrating when freshly applied but after that, it stars to feel extremely tacky and somehow feels like it's going to make my lips even more dry. The first time I used this at night, I woke up with crusty lips 😞 Ever since that night, I stopped using this as a lip mask and used it as a regular lip balm instead. And the only way to avoid that tacky almost drying feeling is to reapply the lip balm before it starts getting bad. (That way I'll be able to finish the product faster so I can get rid of it soon lol)
❌ There's really nothing special about this product 😠They just have a pretty packaging (and a good marketing strategy).
Now for the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm
If you've been following me for a while now, you'll know that the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is my holy grail. However, because the consistency of the mask is thicker and heavier, I only really use it at night.
Now to get my lips to survive throughout the day, I decided to also purchase the lip glowy balm. AND WHAT A GREAT PRODUCT TO SPEND YOUR MONEY ON.
✅ Absolutely lightweight and non sticky. It smells amazing too. Eventually after an hour, the fragrance will totally disappear. Don't worry, it doesn't have any after smell 😅
✅ A great Dior Lip Glow dupe! If you've ever used the Dior Lip glow in Pink, this Laneige glowy balm has the same finish and feel.
✅ It does keep my lips hydrated and the best part is it gives my lips that very healthy natural pinkish glow.
❌ Okay, the only thing I don't like about it is the packaging! 🙈 I hate tube packaging when it comes to lip balms because of hygienic reasons which is why I always use my clean fingers when applying this balm. Another reason why I don't like it is because I know I won't be able to scrape the rest of the product when I empty this. I still prefer the bullet type of lip balm packaging
Final verdict
So obviously as you can see, in terms of performance, the Laneige Lip Glowy Balm wins. I just wish they change the packaging 😅 As for Summer Fridays, they have to work harder on their formulation. I personally think that they have a great marketing strategy to back up their product which is why it's one of their best sellers. If you ask me though, it's not worth splurging your money on Summer Fridays. Better to get the Laneige one instead.
