Jamu, The Healthy Elixir

Ever wonder what the secret is to achieve that radiant glow from within that almost seems unattainable? Well if you do, let me tell you, majority of those secrets don’t come from your expensive moisturizers or serums. Want in on a little secret? Then you better keep reading because this will be good. Not only are they cheap, it’s actually great for all ages!
I recently attended a Jamu workshop and with that said, you’re probably wondering what Jamu is and why I used the word ‘elixir’ on my title to accompany the word. It’s from Indonesia and the use of Jamu has been around for thousands of years. It also has more than 3000 recipes that can be used for beauty remedies, and to cure illnesses and diseases. Jamu is simply a potion -herbal medicine- (an anti-oxidant if you must call it) which can also be incorporated in your everyday meals.
They say you are what you eat. Whatever you put in your body will eventually manifest itself into physical features through your figure, your skin etc. Most of the time, it can also affect you mentally. Therefore, including Jamu in your daily (healthy) meals will drastically improve your health and overall appearance. Yusra and I have actually seen this result with our very own eyes through Stephany, the founder of Bali Fit Paradise, who also practices the use of Jamu. Girl, lemme tell you, she was glowing like she was that light at the end of the tunnel!
So, by now you might be asking, how interesting this Jamu is? What diseases and illnesses can it cure? It can cure cancer ðŸ™‚ Elizabeth, the head chef of Bali Fit Paradise (a fitness retreat in Bali) was the one who took lead at the workshop. She was a living testimony of what Jamu could do and she told us and how it affected her life.
According to her story, she was diagnosed of stage 1+ womb cancer. She was of course, devastated to find out about this, as there was no one in her family who had any history of cancer. After going through several biopsies, she decided to go to a Jamu expert. It took her 3 years before the cancer completely disappeared through Jamu; but of course, along with it, she completely turned her life around by living and eating healthy.
A friend of hers, had stage 4 breast cancer. It was so bad, her breasts had already burst. She too had turned to Jamu and would you believe, 6 months later, it disappeared. This is also with the help of a special clinic in Bali where natural ingredients are injected directly through iv.
We had a guest at the workshop, where her husband was diagnosed of stage 4 lymphoma cancer. Turned to Jamu and his diet around by eating healthy. A few years later, he beat cancer.
Don’t get me wrong, Jamu isn’t only for these diseases. It just goes to show how that if a natural approach can get rid of these illnesses, then it can definitely get rid of almost anything. If you want to treat your high blood or lower down your cholesterol levels, Jamu is the answer. Wanna get thin, or get a glowing skin? Jamu is the answer. Need help toning those muscles while working out? Turn to Jamu. But like I said earlier, Jamu is just like a potion. For it to take effect, you’re going to have to work on your healthy diet too. Like they say, it always takes two to tango. So to achieve optimum results, you really have to be committed at changing your lifestyle. With that said, I’m going to share 2 recipes that you can easily make at home.
Turmeric Tamarind Drink.

This drink is good for detoxifying, if you have gastritis, high cholesterol, high blood or if you simply want to lose weight. Drink this twice a day, one in the morning on an empty stomach and one in the evening before bed. This is also somewhat similar to an antibiotic. If you have infections, this drink can help.

Ingredients: What you need (for one shot [glass] of drink ):

NOTE: All ingredients must be organic / fresh!
– A thumb size of turmeric root finely grated
– Ripe tamarind (thailand brand will do, however, Indonesian tamarind would be much better)
– Organic Honey (FUN FACT: Organic / fresh honey does not freeze. Therefore, if you want to know if your honey is organic, simply put it in the freezer for 24 hours. If it’s frozen then it’s simply not organic)
Preparation:

1. Finely grate the turmeric root and squeeze the juice out in one bowl.

2. Peel the tamarind and remove stem and seed and mix with about 2 -3 tablespoon of water and juice it (amount of tamarind you want to mix with the turmeric will depend on your taste)

3. Mix the juiced turmeric and the tamarind together then add about 1-2 teaspoons of honey or as desired.
4. Fill in your shot glass with the drink and enjoy ðŸ™‚
Cabbage Water

This drink is also an antioxidant and has anti-cancer properties. It’s also good if you’re trying to lose some extra pounds. If you want radiant skin, take this cabbage juice as it’s rich in Vitamin A and E which drastically helps to improve the appearance of your skin giving you that radiant glow from within. This can be used as a substitute to juices and soda. You can drink the cabbage juice 5 times a day in a shot glass. Here’s how you make it.
Ingredients
– Purple Cabbage
– 1 teaspoon of lemon
Preparation
1. Boil the purple cabbage deep in water until you see the water turn dark purple. Once the liquid has become purple, immediately turn off your pan, remove the cabbage and let the water cool.

2. Fill the shot glass with cabbage water and add 1 teaspoon of lemon. Once you add that drop, you’ll see the water change from purple to pink ðŸ™‚ That’s it. Drink & enjoy!

Before I end this post, I want to take this opportunity to thank TishTash for inviting me to such an insightful and enlightening workshop. Also, thanks to Karima (co-founder of L’Atelier Aquafitness), Stephany (founder of Bali Fit Paradaise) & Elizabeth (head chef of Bali Fit Paradise) for taking their time to share their knowledge and testimonies. We definitely brought home a useful information that we could share with our families and benefit us for a lifetime!
So if you haven’t heard or tried of Jamu yet, ladies and gents, you HAVE to try it and let it become a part of you.

xo, Bianca
