Part 1. FREE Things to do in Sharjah: Attend Bait Al Shamsi Nights

free things to do in sharjah itsbeayt

If you're looking for something new to do this coming Friday and Saturday (March 25 & 26, 2022), then I highly suggest you make your way to Bait Al Shamsi at Sharjah Art Foundation.

They have a program called Bait Al Shamsi Night where they've prepared interactive workshops for people of all ages to take part in. In the last four weeks that I've attended, I've already created a collage, tried Capoeira - a Brazilian marshal art, learned how to create tatreez patterns and made my own tatreez keychain as well as my own tatreez mask, and I also now know how to make water color pigments from scratch using natural ingredients. Almost forgot, I also attended a writing course ♥︎

March 25 and 26 will be their last week and here's what you can expect from their line up. (All information provided are from Sharjah Art Foundation)

Friday and Saturday - March 25 and 26

PROGRAM: Sharjah Art Foundation Exhibition Tour for youth, adults, children, family.
Participants will go on a guided tour of the exhibition to view significant works created by the artist Khalil Rabah from the 1990s to the present.
TIME: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

PROGRAM: Tatreez Bookmarks with Eman Al Khawaja. For youth and adults. Age 16+
Traditional Palestinian embroidery is called tatreez. It is a skill many women in Palestine learn as children, both to decorate their own homes and also to generate income. Embroidery patterns are traditionally cross-stitched on dresses and headdresses. Artist Eman Al Khawaja will be teaching participants basics of tatreez embroidery techniques, and they will then create patterns on bookmarks
TIME: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

PROGRAM: Drawing on Tote Bags with Mohannad Al Orabi. For youth and adults. Open to all ages.
In this workshop, participants will be drawing patterns and designs inspired by Palestinian embroidery on tote bags.
TIME: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

PROGRAM: Tapestry Weaving With Sarah Alsaman. For youth and adults. Age 16+
Inspired by artist Khalil Rabah’s work On what grounds (site plans), participants will learn how to create woven landscapes.
TIME: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

PROGRAM: Botanical Drawings With Rana Thabet. For children and families. Ages 6-15.
In this workshop, participants will observe and make sketches, take sample cuttings and study the distinguishing textures, shapes, colours and details of a number of plants. Afterwards, they will record their observations using various watercolour and sketching techniques introduced in the workshop.
TIME: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Saturday - March 26

Musical performance By Sarah Al Ghanem
TIME: 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

You may notice that all the workshop happens at the same time, and this is only for crowd control. However, once you finish one workshop and feel like attending another one (considering that you still have time), you can do so. And speaking of crowd control, in the 4 weeks that I've been attending the workshop, the place is never packed. It actually feels more like a private class.

If you want to attend (and I highly suggest that you do) fill up this registration form. If you want to see what to expect, you can check out my videos below:
