Foam Moisturisers | HIT or MISS?

Derma

Summer has officially arrived here in Dubai and as the season changes, it's also time to switch up my skin care routine. And that means using moisturizers that are fast absorbent, light and hydrating.

I recently came across this brand called Derma which offers "foam" moisturizers! Yup, you read that correctly. They claim to be the world's first foam technology skincare, but more than that, the brand also carries other range of skin care products such as hand creams, lip balms, hair care and more, that promises to deliver and maintain healthy skin.

I have a couple of products that Derma had sent over. Two foam moisturisers, a lip plumper balm, an under eye gel and a hand cream. But before I begin, I just want to put this out there: I have dry combination skin (oily on the t-zone and dry on the rest of my face) accompanied with sensitivity. I'm also prone to acne every now and then. And one more thing, please take note that this review is based on how my skin had reacted to the products. Do remember that we all have different skin types and at the end of the day, skin care still boils down to personal preference. Meaning, what might work for me, might not work for you and vice versa.

Okay, let's start with the foam moisturisers, shall we? I know you're here because of that!

Sorafine Foam: AED 165

As it clearly says on the packaging, this is an everyday, super-enriching, non-comedogenic (love reading this on skin care products as this means it won't clog your pores) moisturizer. It's hypoallergenic, free from artificial colors, perfumes, parabens and other preservatives. It has aloe vera (good for hydration), chamomile (helps reduce skin irritation) and urea (treats dryness). It's non-greasy, fast absorbent and this moisturizer can also be used for babies over 6 months!

The Experience

I have to say, it was fun playing with the foam at first. I swear, it was like a foam party! But on to a more serious note, right off the bat, they weren't lying with the quick absorption feature and it did feel as light as a feather. Also, it smelled like chocolate mousse!

Anyway, I wasn't sure how much product I had to use on my face so I kept spraying a little amount at a time. It's a good thing that a little amount goes a long way though. Once the product has been absorbed by your skin, it will feel a little tacky, but it eventually dies down after a second or 2.

P.S. I think that this piece of information is something you should know. If this is the first thing you apply on your face, then there will be no tackiness. BUT. If you apply it after a serum, o there will be a lot of tackiness and will die down

I've been using the foam moisturizer for a month now, on and off actually. I mentioned earlier that I have oily combination skin, so the first time I used it, I woke up the next day, with a very greasy face! Therefore, I used it sparingly and only on times when I felt like my face needed the extra moisture; and on those days, I wake up with a plump and glowing skin :) So far, it's been treating my skin well and I haven't experienced any break outs! I have very sensitive skin and I'm very careful about the products I put on my face. I wasn't afraid to try this out since it had aloe vera (which works really well for my skin) and chamomile which helps reduce skin irritation.

Foam residue that built up over night.
Also, I only use the moisturiser at night because it had no SPF; and layering products during the day isn't a good idea especially if you live in a hot and humid weather like Dubai. They do have the Photoblock Plus Foam if I'm not mistaken and you can go ahead and check it out if interests you.

The only thing I didn't like about it is the residue of bubbles that builds up. I always have to clear it up before spraying fresh foam. I just want to see the nozzle clean before putting anything on my face. lol.

VERDICT

Would I use it again? Although the formula is great, I don't think it's something that I would use again or purchase. Yes, it's quick absorbent and it does save you time when you're going through your skin care routine (especially if you apply a lot of products) but to me, it felt like a normal moisturizer. The price of the product is also a little expensive, so I'm still going to stick to my trusty moisturizer after this.

I'd have to point out one thing though, I immediately noticed that there was no indicator whether it was for the body or the face...which was confusing. I wish they'd mentioned clearly what the product was for because this is an important description that should not have been missed. After clarification though, the foam moisturizers are for both the face and body.

Aqaux Plus: AED 185

The Aquax Plus is another one of their foam moisturizers but this time, it caters to extremely rough and dry skin skin; areas such as your heels, elbows etc. This product can also be used on the face, so if you're someone who has very dry skin, then this might be your life saver.

The Experience

I never got the chance to use this on my face and not so much on areas such as my heels or elbows which are supposed to be prone to dryness. I do have dry cuticles most of the time so I used this as a hand moisturizer instead. I'm pretty surprised at the results because I noticed that my dry cuticles have kept themselves together and aren't hanging off my fingernails anymore!

VERDICT

I'm very happy with this moisturizer and although I won't be using this on a regular basis, I will still keep this visible on my shelf in case my skin needs that extra TLC. Will I purchase it though, that is the question...to be honest, it's 50/50, because let's admit, it is expensive, plus, I still don't know how long this will last me. So let's see. If and when I do, of course, I'll keep you guys updated :)

Lip Plumper Balm: AED 105

This was the first thing my hand reached for the moment I saw it. The plumpler balm contains an active ingredient called Volulip, which is supposed to give you those pouty lips. More than that, it contains micro-hyaluronic acid that claims to preserve skin hydration keeping your lips smooth and soft.

My Experience

I have the worst lips and have developed a bad habit of peeling the skin off my lips because they're so chapped all the time. Which is something you're not supposed to be doing! But one night, I tried this lip balm and boy....I woke up with the smoothest lips! Not. Even. Kidding. No shedding, no cracked lips, nada!

The product applies so smoothly like butter, but it doesn't feel greasy at all. It doesn't have a smell and doesn't have any taste too. Plus, a very tiny amount goes a very long way, and you only need to use it twice a day; once in the morning, and once in the evening. I even stopped using my other lip balms and stopped carrying them in my purse too! Yep, it's that effective!

Ever since I started using it, I've been extra addicted to my lipsticks. My lipstick application have never been so peaceful, so smooth and so satisfying! I know you ladies know the feeling of applying matte lippies on to chapped lips, it's not the best or the prettiest thing. But with the help of this lip balm, it just does wonders and I can't stress it enough!

VERDICT

YES I'M GOING TO BUY THIS WHEN I RUN OUT. I know it's expensive but it's really worth your money. If you can spend 95aed for a Clarin's lip oil, then you sure as hell should spend 10aed more for this. Toss your lip balms and get this one instead.

One thing I have to point out though, it says on the packaging that it's supposed to plump your lips, but, I'm not so sure about the plumping part. I have naturally full lips and so I don't really notice if they're doing a great job at "plumping" them. It doesn't matter to me though, because all I've wished for is a smooth lip and this balm is doing a great job at fulfilling that!

Hand Repair Cream: AED 112

The hand repair cream contains natural oils such as jojoba and evening primrose oil which is supposed to strengthen the physical barrier of the skin and help decrease water loss. It also contains micro-hyaluronic acid that maintains smooth and soft skin.

My Experience

I'll be brutally honest about this hand repair cream... I used it once and that was it..and only because I did not like the smell of it. It would have been better if it was unscented but nope. It had this weird scent to it that I can't describe. All I know is, this isn't the first hand cream that smells like this.

VERDICT

Sorry but I have to pass. It's a no for me.

Under Eye Gel: AED 189

This under eye gel claims to get rid of the cause of dark circles. Does it work though? The under eye gel contains an active ingredient called Haloxyl which is supposed to boost blood circulation, thus getting rid of your dark under eyes. It's also supposed to reduce puffiness around the eyes. Fun fact: there was a study where 22 female volunteers applied a gel containing 2% Hyloxyl which ran for 56 days. It resulted in a 60% reduction of dark circles under the eyes of these volunteers!

My Experience

I don't have very visible dark circles, but it's there, slowly creeping in. And speaking of which, instead of sleeping, here I am wide awake at 12:30am typing :) P.S. Lack of sleep is one of the causes of dark under eyes! But, oh well, if you have words flowing smoothly through your fingertips, might as well use that opportunity to get them on paper...or screen for this matter.

I've been using this for a month, day and night (although I have to disclose that most of the time, I forget to apply it in the morning). And the instructions on the box says to use it day and night. Anyway, it doesn't say how long it will take for you to see the results but as for me, I didn't see any difference. Maybe if I use it for another month, then I'll see the difference. And if I do, then I'll be sure to update this blog :)

VERDICT

For now, I have to say that results aren't visible. Beauty takes time so I don't want to conclude anything yet. I'm going to use this for the next month and will update this blog in the next 30 days :)
